Dinner for 12 Strangers

The concept behind the Dinner for 12 Strangers program is to build and strengthen the UNM community by creating an informal environment for UNM alums to make connections with students and faculty!

By recruiting local alumni to host dinners in their homes for students, faculty and other alumni, communities will be built and UNM will become a smaller, friendlier place.

Dinners can range from a catered affair to a backyard barbeque.

In addition to a home-cooked dinner, the program offers participants an excellent opportunity to make new friends and valuable connections.

UNM students, alumni and faculty come together as strangers and leave as friends.

Read the Daily Lobo article:

"Lobos convene over tasty food, talk."

Similar programs have been successful at a number of colleges and universities around the country.

A UCLA alumnus said this about their program:

"Many people miss an opportunity to give or receive a unique message because they choose not to interact.

You never know what form a message takes or where it will lead; it all starts with saying hello to strangers.

We hope to give students the opportunity to speak with alumni and faculty on an informal level.

It’s a chance for students to see that they can still be involved with their university after they graduate."
